At Coven Classics, we're a team of creatives, including witches, illustrators, animators, and developers, crafting comics that reimagine classic stories with a gothic twist. Our stories feature lead characters drawn from popular NFT collections.

Why We Think We're Going to Make It:

We genuinely love creating comics and would do so regardless of Web3. Our team consists of friends who have been working on commercial and personal projects together for a while. Our lead illustrator has over 15 years of experience in the comic and gaming industry. Awkquarian, our high priestess at the coven, is a practicing witch, alt artist, and crypto enthusiast since 2018, bringing a unique perspective and deep understanding of NFTs and Web3. We're new-age creators who have been blending traditional and digital art for years, and to us, Web3 is just another medium to express ourselves and build better fandom and storytelling experiences.

Challenges we ran into

We are building NFT comics on-chain with a token-gated reader. Our goal is to make onboarding and purchasing so easy that even my grandma can buy my comic and read it.

Roadblocks we faced with tech and how we solved it:

1. Ensuring Access Regardless of Payment Method:

Problem: When a person buys our product from Shopify, they should still be able to mint the NFT and read the comic regardless of the payment method.
Solution: We have implemented a workaround by maintaining an order book of all Shopify orders. Once a customer makes a purchase, they receive a special claim link. By logging in with their email, the NFT is automatically dropped into their embedded wallet, allowing them to view the comic.

2. Allowlist and Discount Management:

Problem: All our allowlists were created through email and Farcaster channel follows. We need to show these people how they can also claim a discount at checkout.
Solution: We are using Privy to manage this. Even if someone connects via MetaMask, we allow them to connect Farcaster and email to their user profile. Our backend checks if the user is on the allowlist and provides a discount based on that.

3. Token-Gated Reader with Email and Wallet Login:

Problem: How to get NFTs to Shopify buyers and ensure access through a token-gated reader.
Solution: We save Shopify buyers in our database and create an embedded wallet for them. After verifying the purchase through our API, we automatically airdrop the NFT into their wallet. This allows users to log in with their email and wallet to access the token-gated reader.
These solutions ensure that our NFT comics are accessible and user-friendly, making the onboarding and purchase process seamless for everyone, including those unfamiliar with blockchain technology.
